County Environmental Health Departments
The Iowa Biomonitoring Program is working in 11 Iowa counties to assess chemical exposures among the population that utilizes private wells for their household water supply. We have partnered with the Environmental Health agencies in Boone, Buchanan, Cerro Gordo, Clinton, Greene, Hancock, Hardin, Johnson, Monona, Woodbury, and Wright counties.
University of Iowa Reproductive Health Sciences
The Iowa Biomonitoring Program has partnered with the University of Iowa Reproductive Health Sciences Division to conduct targeted surveillance among pregnant women. The program will study urine samples from the Maternal-Fetal Tissue Bank (MFTB) at the University of Iowa to determine exposure to environmental chemicals (e.g. metals, neonicotinoid insecticides, and endocrine disruptors) during pregnancy.
National Biomonitoring Program
The National Biomonitoring Network (NBN) is a collaboration of federal, regional, state, and local laboratories that conduct biomonitoring for use in public health practice and in response to environmental emergencies. The network aims to advance the science of biomonitoring, encourage its use in addressing environmental health questions and ensure quality practices, which will help produce comparable biomonitoring data.
